L'Ecole Van Cleef & Arels

What an exclusive morning!

Today, I took a course at the prestigious Ecole des Arts Joaillers (School of Jewelry Arts) supported by Van Cleef & Arpels and I absolutely loved it.

The school, was created five years ago, in 2012, in the premises of Van Cleef & Arpels, place Vendôme, with the goal of introducing the world of jewelry to the general public. The school offers some 20 classes, in both French and English, around three broad themes : Savoir-Faire, the World of Gems and the Art History of Jewelry.

The course I attend was precisely about the history and legends of diamonds. The class was conducted by a gemologist, Inezita Gay and an art historian, Gislain Aucremanne, both fascinating. They told us the stories of the most fabulous diamonds which made their mark on history and showed us their replicas. I must admit that I never saw such wonders. I also didn't realize that, hundreds years ago, men were the ones who wear diamonds in order to get strength, power, virility and also protection. The class was fascinating and I felt blessed to be able to attend it. At the end of the morning, we even received a certificated! Fabulous!

No doubt I will come back very soon to attend another class. I am very curious to find out how jewels are created; there is a course, "From design to mock-up", which seems just perfect for that.

Oh, by the way, if you happen to be in Paris right now, you may want to go and see their current installation "The fabulous destiny of Tavernier's diamonds", a historical reconstitution of 20 exceptional diamonds acquired by Louis XIV. They are said to be "the most beautiful ever". It's free and it's just breathtaking.  For more information on these beauties, you may click here.

Nb: these courses can make a great present. The school has several packages.
