Philippe Halsman

Today, I went to see the new exhibition at Jeu de Paume Museum, at Concorde. On my way to the exhibition, I had the feeling that I would love it . And I actually did. I spent such a good time discovering the work of Philippe Halsman (1906-1979), a major photographer of his time.

He is the one who invented jumpology. He asked his models to jump because while you jump you don't think anymore about the fact that you are being taken into picture. Hence you show the very natural and spontanuous part of yourself. I loved the pictures of people jumping. It's fun.

Being a fan of Marilyn Monroe, I absolutely adore all the pictures he took of her. I also very much enjoyed finding out he was so close to Dali and experienced so many new ways with him.

Altogether, the retrospective showcases more than 300 documents.

Honestly, I think it's an exhibition not to be missed this autumn.

Palais Royal gardens

www.estheraparis.com

Palais Royal Gardens and Place des Vosges are, by far, my favourite places in Paris. Today, I took little Jude to the Palais Royal Gardens and we had such a great time. This garden is so, so pretty and resting. And, icing on the cake, today there was an exhibition of sculptures by Thierry Courtadon, called Une pierre dans mon jardin (a rock in my garden). Thierry Courtadon sculpts rocks from Volvic, a beautiful grey volcanic rock. I really envoyed his work.

Until November 23rd, 2015 - 7:30am - 8pm

Warhol Unlimited

Today I saw an amazing exhibition devoted to Andy Warhol, at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris (MAM) and I really liked it.

Amongst the 200 works presented, I was very impressed by "Shadows" (1978-1979) a huge painting made out of a group of 102 silkscreened canvases of 17 different colours and 130 meters long. It's one of the biggest paintings I ever saw.

I also really enjoyed the Jacky Kenndy and the Mao friezes. About Mao, Warhol said : "They are so nutty. They don't believe in creativity. The only picture the ever have is of Mao Zedong. It's great. It looks like a silkscreen".

My piece of advice: avoid going on a Sunday afternoon. It's overcrowded.

Until February 7th, 2016
11 avenue du Président Wilson - 75116 Paris
Tuesday to Sunday. 10am - 6pm. Late closing: Thursday 10pm

Fragonard in love

©Estheraparis.com

Fragonard in love, suitor and libertine, such is the theme of the latest exhibition presented by the Musée du Luxembourg, until January 24th, 2016.

According to the Goncourt brothers, the 18th century was an era of seduction, love, intrigue and Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806) was its main illustrator. The exhibition focuses on the mid-18th century, a time when the spirit of Enlightenment was deeply influenced by English sensualism.

The installation shows more than 80 pieces, some of which are very well-known and lent by the most prestigious collections in Europe and the United-States.

"Lovely" exhibition ;-)
