Jean-Paul Gaultier au Grand Palais

©Esther à Paris

Because I love fashion in general and the genius of Jean-Paul Gaultier in particular, I had a fabulous time visiting the exhibition devoted to the French couturier, at the Grand Palais, today.

Before coming to Paris, this exhibition has been presented in 9 important cities all over the world (Montreal, Madrid, Melbourne...). It brings together 175 haute couture, but also ready-to-wear outfits designed between 1976 and 2015. They are all absolutely gorgeous ! I was so excited seeing these magnificient pieces. This exhibition, which Jean-Paul Gaultier seens as a creation in its own right and not a retrospective, is like a show. I loved the way the outfits are presented. It was a real dazzlement.

There are also numerous of very interesting objects and archival documents, some of which are shown to the public for the first time. I loved the corner dedicated to Madonna. It reminded me when I saw both of them, in Cannes, at the 44th Film Festival, where Madonna presented "In bed with Madonna".

A great exhibition for all the family.

Until August 3rd, 2015
Galeries nationales, Clemenceau entrance.
Wednesday to Saturday (10am - 10pm) - Sunday and Monday (10am - 8pm)

Angelina Musée du Luxembourg

©Esther à Paris

You certainly have heard about Angelina tearoom, famous for it's hot chocolate "l'Africain", and it's lovely pastries especially, signature "Mont Blanc" whose secret recipe remains closely guarded after one hundred years.

The décor, designed by famous Belle Epoque architect Edouard-Jean Niermans, is very elegant.  The problem is that the place suffers from its own success. It's always crowded and you even have to queue to get in. That's why, I haven't been there for ages.

On the other hand, there is another Angelina tearoom where I love to go: it's the one at musée du Luxembourg. The coffee (and the little chocolate that comes with it) is just yummy. I often go there after a stroll in Jardin du Luxembourg.

My tip: in the summer, you can seat outside, at one of the outside tables.

La fourmi ailée

©Esther à Paris

Today, let me tell you about a tearoom (salon de thé) that I particularly like because it's cute and cosy. It's called "La fourmi ailée" (winged ant). I have no idea why it's called like that but don't worry, there aren't any ants in there ;-)

It's a lovely, cosy tearoom, with books on shelves and a fireplace. I like the atmosphere of the spot. The staff is kind and helpful and the food is good. On the menu, salads, tarts, veg dishes, meat and fish, and... lovely deserts.

If you come for a cup of tea, in the afternoon, you may take a piece of cake.

My piece of advice: lovely when it's cold outside.

Villa Saint Germain

©Esther à Paris

Today, the weather was a bit grey here, in Paris. In order to warm up and spend a nice lunch break I decided to enjoy a cup of coffee at Villa Saint-Germain, a lovely 4-Star hotel, located in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

The lounge is very pleasant and cosy. I love the decoration. It's very elegant and modern and, icing on the cake, the staff is kind and helpful.

Jeanne Lanvin au Palais Galliara

I had such a great time today ! I went to see the exhibition devoted to Jeanne Lanvin, at the Palais Galliera. The exhibition was fantastic and, believe or not, I had the chance to meet the divine Alber Elbaz. It was so exciting.

The exhibition features over 100 models created by Jeanne Lanvin (1867-1946). All of them are gorgeous. I loved the evening dresses; there are so chic and stylish ! I wish I could have worn them.

What struck me is fabrics and materials Jeanne Lanvin used. She had the virtuosity of the couturiere's craft. She used embroidery, topstitches, twists, spirals, cut-outs. And the result is always amazing but yet simple and smart.

Oh, and did you know that Lanvin is the oldest French fashion house still in business !

My tip: there is a free mobile application for the exhibition. It's available in French and English.

Until August 23rd, 2015

Tudors musée luxembourg exposition

Elisabeth Ire (dit le portrait au phénix)
©National Portrait Gallery, London, England

Today I had a lovely lunch break. I went to see the exhibition "The Tudors" presented by the Musée du Luxembourg until July 19th, and I really enjoyed it, even though I am not a huge fan of history.

The dynasty of the Tudors, who reigned on the English throne between 1485 and 1603, is  one of the most popular. When I told my dear daughter that I saw the exhibition, she jumped with excitement saying that she absolutely wanted to see it as well. In my opinion, it can be very interesting for children and teenagers.

Apart from the legend largely inspired by their private lives, the sovereigns left a deep imprint on the history of the kingdom: politically, by giving a strategic position in Europe; spiritually, by breaking away from the Catholic Church; and culturally, by welcoming the Renaissance.

I spent a very good moment and I will go back with my daughter.

Until July 19th, 2015
